Welcome to the website for Oficina da Capoeira, Chichester.

Currently the group is on a brief hiatus whilst the instructor takes a break to settle in with his new born second daughter.

Classes will return, watch this space!

Weekly round up 26th June

After a fantastic trip to Bristol for their workshop and batizado, am really excited for the classes this week, especially as the wrist brace is off and I begin to use my hand again (slowly, slowly!) in class!

In a fortnight it's the 9th International Capoeira Festival in Cheltenham. There's still space in my car, we leave Friday 8th at 16:00 (though if you've got work, we can wait a little for you), and will return Sunday, probably early to mid evening. There's a cracking line up of guest capoeira teachers!

Here's the roda video for this week, from the event at Bristol yesterday. It won't embed, so just follow the link.

See you all in class!

Weekly round up 19th June

Firstly, happy Fathers' Day to all the dads out there!

Sorry for no post last week - I was busy GCSE marking and simply didn't have the time.

Two big notices this week:

Monday classes are at a new venue and time:
19:30 - 21:00 The Lodge, Greylingwell Park, Chichester, PO19 6YS. £6 for adults, £4 for children.

Saturday 25th sees our road trip to our Oficina da Capoeira family in Bristol for a workshop and kids' batizado, followed by a BBQ. There is still some space in my car, so let me know if you'd like to come - we'll be leaving Chichester at 07:30. Full details of the event are here.

We'll finish with a video of Contra Mestre Nego Teta and Mestre JoĆ£ozinho in the roda. For those there on Thursday, have a look for what we were learning about - playing with each other; each move have intent behind it, even if it doesn't make contact; and above all the playfulness in the game:

Weekly round up 5th of June

Two big announcements this week to remind you of:

Firstly, the Monday classes are changing, come to the first at our new venue tomorrow:

19:30 - 21:00 The Lodge, Greylingwell Park, Chichester, PO19 6YS. £6 for adults, £4 for children.

Secondly, our festival planned for this August has had to be postponed - it's not been cancelled! We'll turn this into an advantage though, it means an extra year of preparation, so we can come back bigger and better next year! Thanks to everyone for your support and understanding with this!

We'll finish with a video of Mestre Ray in the roda with Mestre King:

Capoeira festival postponed until 2017

It is with regret that I am postponing this event until next year. Advance sales were lower than expected, and so to ensure the event can run without incurring debt, I will spend the extra year finding funding, so that I can come back with a bigger and better event next year.

Thank you for your interest, see you for the Festival in 2017!
