Weekly round up 31st July

Firstly, thanks to to Phill and Saiya-jin for supporting the free taster session yesterday, and welcome to the new faces who gave it a go! For those who missed it, there will be another free taster session this Saturday - everybody is welcome! Even if you can't make it, please help spread the word by sharing the event on Facebook.

The night before the free taster session we will be having a social night on Friday 5th to see the latest in the DC Cinematic Universe, Suicide Squad. We'll be watching it at the Picturedrome in Bognor Regis. The times are not yet out, as soon as they are I'll block book tickets for everyone and you can pay me back. We'll aim for a 19:00ish showing, or thereabouts, so there should be time for a drink after if people like, and we'll all be able to get home to see the opening to the Rio Olympics which starts at 23:35 on BBC1!

Our weekly roda video is a bit different this week. On Facebook this week, Mestre Ray (the founder of Oficina da Capoeira) shared a video of his from 2011, which I'd not seen before. It's a bit of a promo reel, with clips and photos from Mestre Ray's world wide adventures, accompanied by music from Mestre Ray himself.

Looking forward to when we can invite him to Chichester!

See you all in class!

Weekly round up 25th July

Now that school's out for the summer, I can devote more time to capoeira, and it's time to do a big push to get our group growing even bigger and better!

More flyers and posters are arriving Wednesday - so if you'd like to take some to give to your friends, put up in your local corner shop, or somewhere else to help spread the word and grow our group, that would be great, I can give you some in class.

On top of that, there will be two free taster sessions in Florence Park, Chichester, both 11:00am to 11:45am. Open to everybody - complete beginners, as well as regular students. Help spread the word! The first is Saturday 30th July and the second is Saturday 6th August.

On top of that, I hope you've already got 4th September in your diary - it's the Get Active Festival. Another great chance to show Chichester how awesome capoeira is, and to have some fun too!

There are other ways to help us grow - find us on social media FacebookTwitter and WhatsApp if you haven't already.

It's the final call for t shirt orders - if you'd like either of these, please let me know by tomorrow.

We'll finish with a special roda, it's celebrating the birthday of Contra Mestre Hiram Ribeiro, but it's also being posted especially for Saiya-jin - following on from the amazing 9th International Capoeira Festival, he was asking how to get into tesoura angola in a natural way. As luck would have it, the very move featured in Contra Mestre Hiram Ribeiro's birthday roda.

Whilst the best way to find out how to flow into moves is to practice and play in the roda, you can learn a lot by watching other people play in the roda. That is one of the main reasons I post these videos each week - the more roda time you get, the better you get!

See you all in class!

Weekly update 17th July

Sorry for the lack of update last week - ot back late from the 9th International Capoeira Festival, and it was amazing!

A few updates:

Firstly, there are a few t shirts left from the festival, and also from the workshop/batizado in Bristol. You can see the two designs here:

They are £10 each. Only a limited availability of sizes, so let me know if you would like one, and I'll see if there are some left in your size.

A date for your diary - Sunday 4th September 10:00 to 16:00 is the annual Get Active Festival in Chichester. It's a chance for us to show off our group, and help grow our numbers. It would be great to have all of you there for as much of the day as you're able to spare.

Now that my wrist is better, you can expect to see a lot more percussion in class - tomorrow at The Lodge we'll have the group's berimbaus out! So in light of that, here's a musical roda to enjoy. See you in class!

Weekly round up 3rd July

There is still space in Kung Fu's car for the 9th International Capoeira Festival in Cheltenham this week - we'll be leaving Friday, and coming back on the Sunday.

If you shop online, have you signed up for Easy Fundraising? It won't cost you a penny, but Oficiana da Capoeira, Chichester will be given a small percentage of the purchase price (it varies between retailers). It's a great way to help support our group, without having to do much!

Here's our roda video for this week:
