Welcome to the website for Oficina da Capoeira, Chichester.

Our classes are open to everyone, and are 19:30 - 21:00 Mondays and Thursdays.

The first lesson is free, and after that classes are £4 for children (under 18) and £6 for adults. No need to book, just turn up.

Monday classes are at The Lodge, Graylingwell Park, Chichester, PO19 6YS.
Thursday classes are at Grit Gym, Station Approac, Chichester, West Sussex, PO19 8GA

New to capoeira? No worries! Complete beginners are welcome, whatever your fitness level or experience. You'll just need to wear to sports clothes to start - jogging bottoms, yoga pants, shorts etc are all fine; and a t shirt that's not to baggy.

Follow these links to find out a bit more about our teacher; Oficina da Capoiera, our capoeira school; and photos from some of our group's activities.

Weekly update 23rd October

Classes are all back to normal now - thanks for your patience following the disruption following the birth of my wonderful daughter!

We also have a couple of workshops on the horizon - the first is 10th December in Cheltenham to celebrate 20 years of Oficina da Capoeira with myself (Graduado Kung Fu), Graduado Piriquito and Instrutor Lua, there will be spaces in cars; and the second is 28th January in Chichester with Mestrando Primo.

Mestrando Primo will be in Brazil in December and can pick up abada (capoeira trousers) for us - they are £35 each, and if you'd like a pair the money needs to be with me by 1st December, and you can either pick them up at the January workshop, or if you can't make the workshop I'll give them to you in class.

Here's a nice roda to finish with:

Classes are back to normal

Thank you for your patience - sorry for the disruption, but the birth of my daughter was totally worth it!

See you in Grit Gym this evening, 19:30 - 21:00 or The Lodge on Monday, or both!

Weekly update 16th October

Well, it's been a busy week. Juno had a small infection, nothing serious, but has had to stay in hospital and we'll be coming home tomorrow. I'll not be there for class, but the hall will be available for free to practice, normal time.

We should be returning to normal on Thursday!

Can't see how to embed this video of Mestrando Primo on the berimbau, and need to get back to hospital.

Normal service to resume soon, thanks for your patience, looking forward to introducing you to Juno.

Weekly update 13th October

Sorry for the disruption to classes, but my amazing daughter Juno is totally worth it!

She is still in hospital, and will likely not be out until the weekend. There is no class tonight, but you will be able to use Grit Gym for free this evening during class time, 19:30 - 21:00 to practice.

I hope classes will be on next week, but stay posted for updates.

Roda translates as circle or wheel, so I'll leave you with a different sort of roda - the circle of life:

Weekly update 3rd October

This week is Women's Sport Week - capoeira is very inclusive and female friendly (you may like to read Women in Capoeira written for International Women's Day). For those interested in starting capoeira, you may like to check out the capoeira basics posts, or this guide on getting started in martial arts from BBC Get Inspired (with whom we are partnered).

In keeping with the female focuse, my daughter is due any day now - and there is a competition to guess her weight. It's only £1 to enter, with half the proceeds going to the prize fund, and the other half to our capoeira group. The prize fund is now at £31!

We'll finish with a couple of a videos from the same women's roda:

See you all in class!
